All the best to everyone who’s been affected by flooding this weekend.

Over the weekend, we’ve all seen video of the flooding in Texas, which has been awful. It reminded us a lot of what happened in Western North Carolina with Hurricane Helene. The worst of it was that a summer camp for girls, Camp Mystic, was swept away and a number of those children were lost.

It’s nightmarish, to say the least and the families that have had to endure that...what can you possibly say? Your hearts just go out to them.

Then this morning we saw the news from Orange and Durham Counties. The flooding is not as bad here as it is there, but it’s bad. We saw one story of two women coming out of a movie theater, unaware that flooding was happening. Eastgate, the shopping center at the bottom of Franklin Street, is heavily affected. Many houses are underwater. The zone is smaller but the damage, or at least the property damage, is similar.

We saw this picture of UNC basketball player Seth Trimble in a movie theater. Clearly he’s anxious but admirably cool. We’re sure he’s fine but it’s not a great night obviously. All best wishes to everyone in Chapel Hill and Durham County who are suffering today.

During Helene, Texans offered us a lot of support. We have to take care of our own obviously, but we hope North Carolinians will give back to the charity of your choice to help get aid to everyone who needs it. We’re listing a few sites below.
