Nik Khamenia On Why He Chose Duke

Good signs all around

We think everyone should be on campus now and digging into summer work both academic and athletic.

Well, everyone except for Nik Khamenia, who has been with Team USA in Switzerland. We’re excited about his future with Duke. He’s a hard-nosed, smart basketball player who should help Duke a lot.

What was it though that drew him to Duke?

Ultimately, it may have come down to Jon Scheyer, who made a big impression. This is what he said about Scheyer recently:

“I think ultimately, he is just a great player’s coach. And I think for guys who aren’t afraid to be coached, he is the perfect fit.”

This ties in nicely with what Kelly Flagg said about Scheyer, that she had “all the confidence in the world that Cooper could do this with the right team and with the right coach...We love everything about Duke and what they’re about. Just what Jon is building with that program is really incredible.”

She also said that Cooper “would run through walls for that man.”

Speaking of Khamenia, the US beat Germany for the championship Sunday, winning 109-76.
