Cavs Reacts: Fans are split on a LeBron James reunion
Cavs fans surprised us this time.
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Cleveland Cavaliers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Earlier in the week, we asked Cavs fans to answer to questions on our survey. Now, we have the somewhat surprising results.
Cleveland fans are split on a potential LeBron James homecoming. More than half of our vote was against bringing James home, with only 47% of the fan base voting in favor.
This makes sense, considering the massive package it would require to bring James back. A trade featuring Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Max Strus would gut the roster in favor of the oldest player in the league.
With that said... it is LeBron James. I wouldn’t necessarily push for this trade to happen — but I would get myself excited easily enough, if it happened. I’d imagine most Cavs fans, even the ones who voted no, would agree.
FanDuel currently has the Cavaliers as the fifth most likely team to win the championship (+850). We’d wager those odds improve if James is traded back to the Land.
Our second question was about Lonzo Ball.
Cavs fans overwhelmingly agreed with the decision to trade Isaac Okoro for Ball. Nearly 80% of voters approved.
Ball offers something new to the Cavalier bench. He’s an elite point-of-attack defender who can also serve as a genius playmaker. He’ll raise Cleveland’s ceiling in the playoffs, if he’s healthy once they get there.
