Cooper Flagg Is Officially A Dallas Maverick
Great news for an immensely promising talent and a team that needs a facelift.
The Dallas Mavericks announced Wednesday that they had signed Cooper Flagg to his first professional contract. The terms were not released, but by the rookie scale you can pretty much expect him to be making $62.7 million over the next four years with the first two years guaranteed under the terms of the CBA between the NBA and the players union.
You’ll see in the picture with this article that he’s no longer wearing #2. In high school, Flagg wore #32, but obviously that one is off-limits at Duke since Christian Laettner’s number was retired after his brilliant career ended.
Also, Jermaine O’ Neal and Dwight Howard are the latest NBA types to weigh in on Flagg. O’ Neal feels he needs to improve his shooting, which he’s already done, and Howard reminds that he’s just 18 and has time to grow.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are scheduled to play Dallas in summer league play next week and Flagg, who Dallas plans to run at point guard, will meet Bronny James, who sounds like he’s ready to get past last season’s circus and just play some ball. It’ll be an interesting challenge for both guys.
