YouTube Gold: Hakeem Olajuwon Was More Of A Hallucination Than A Dream
No one did things like Hakeem Olajuwon did
Chances are the most dominant big man of all time was Wilt Chamberlain: he was 7-1, weighed about 290, had sprinter speed, reporetdly had a 50” leap and one year averaged 50 ppg.
But if anyone could give him prime Wilt a run, it might be Hakeem Olajuwon.
Hakeem the Dream had phenomenal quickness for a big guy. He did things in the paint that no one had ever seen before.
You would probably have to give Wilt the edge on strength, but could he have handled the Dream Shake?
Great question. We’ll never know.
However, his contemporaries had immense respect for his talent and character. In this video, people like David Robinson, Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and others talk about Olajuwon’s greatness. Even Michael Jordan was in awe, saying that he wasn’t sure the Bulls could handle Olajuwon if they met in the finals.
Clearly, they held him in awe, and rightly so. There was no one like The Dream and probably never will be again.
