Warriors tender $7.9 million qualifying offer to Jonathan Kuminga

The Kuminga offseason saga has officially begun.

The Golden State Warriors have officially tendered the $7.9 million qualifying offer to Jonathan Kuminga.

Should Kuminga decline the qualifying offer — which he is expected to do — he will officially become a restricted free agent. Other teams can present an offer sheet, which the Warriors can match.

Kuminga’s restricted free agency is perhaps the biggest story of the Warriors’ offseason. Kuminga has been the topic of a hot debate — the latest face of the tug and pull between surrounding the Warriors’ core of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler with win-now pieces; and the development of the next generation of Warriors players who, in theory, will bring the team toward their next phase.

A sign-and-trade scenario is also on the table for Kuminga. However, a CBA quirk called Base Year Compensation may make that difficult for the Warriors to pull off:
