Brotherhood Draft Watch: Three Unnamed NBA Types Give Their Unvarnished Opinion On Cooper Flagg
This really is pretty interesting
As we’ve been tracking, there are some wildly differing opinions on how good Duke’s Cooper Flagg will be in the NBA. Over at Sportskeeda, two NBA executives and a scout gave their opinions. Here are some excerpts from their comments:
Western Conference Exec:
“If he’s healthy, he’s easily going to be a multi-time All-NBA guy and an All-Star for multiple years. I’m not going to be surprised if he’s a multiple-time first, second, or third-team All-NBA. His goal is probably to win multiple championships and be recognized as one of the best players in the NBA ever.”
He goes on to say that Dallas wants him to be a franchise player but he’s not sure he’ll get there. He does think he’s going to hit an All-NBA level though.
Eastern Conference Exec:
“The really freakish thing is that he’s only 18 years old. I’m not sure there was a No. 1 pick who was 18. There’s not much that he can’t do. I’ve seen him play a lot this year. I still question his consistency in shooting with range. But not as much as I did a year ago. He’s just going to get better and better with repetition.”
NBA Scout:
“Cooper is not a freak athletically...But what does come around is his maturity and depth of his versatility. That’s what should be exciting for the Mavericks right now. They know what they’re going to get. The ceiling is still high because he’s still going to develop, and he can still grow. He can get better. He can make not only himself better, but also the team better. “
There is a lot more analysis here of Flagg’s potential and what these three guys think he’ll do. No one thinks he’s overrated. The basic question is: what is his ceiling? And that we can’t know until we do.
