Brotherhood Draft Watch: Khaman Maluach Update
Could be lots of scheming to get Maluach, with some teams possibly trading down
Like teammate Kon Knueppel, bets on where Khaman Malauch goes in the draft are all over the place, at least when it comes to the lottery.
One team that may be looking to acquire Maluach is San Antonio. Not with the #2 pick which belongs to the Spurs, but either with the 14th or in some trade deal involving that pick.
The idea is that Maluach, who plays very well around the basket, would either back up Wembanyama or possibly help the Spurs sort of reinvent the 1980’s Twin Towers the Houston Rockets had with Ralph Sampson and Hakeem Olajuwon.
There are a lot of ifs and buts here, but (see?) it would be fun to see Maluach in San Antonio.
However, it will be different as Gregg Popovich has retired, following his stroke this past season.
Popovich has been replaced by Mitch Johnson, who served as interim coach in Pop’s absence this past season. In typical Spurs fashion, he has been with the franchise since 2016 and as a side note, he and former Blue Devil Paolo Banchero attended the same high school, Seattle’s O’Dea.
However, of course he may not be on the board by the time San Antonio has the chance to pick again. Among other teams, Philadelphia and Charlotte have been mentioned as potential landing spots.
