Scottie Scheffler’s Memorial Tournament win came with all kinds of absurd history

Scottie Scheffler’s win at the Memorial was historic to say the least.

When we said it last week it was a bit tongue in cheek. Just a bit.

It was noted in the lead up to the Memorial Tournament that Scottie Scheffler, then the defending champion, could join Tiger Woods as the only players to win the tournament in question in consecutive seasons (Tiger actually had a streak of three in a row because of course he did). Here we sit on Monday and low and behold, to nobody’s surprise, Scottie did it again.

The number one player in the world picked up his 16th career PGA Tour victory and beyond joining Tiger on that specific list... Scottie set a number of historical marks:

  • Scottie is the first player to defend any title on TOUR since he himself defended his Players Championship title in 2024
  • He is now tied for the most wins on TOUR this season (3) with Rory McIlroy
  • To date Scottie has won the CJ CUP, PGA Championship and Memorial Tournament in 2025
  • He also joined Tiger as the only players to win the Memorial and the Players OR a major championship in multiple years
  • Scottie officially holds the fourth smallest timeframe between his first and 16th career victories (3 years, 3 months and 19 days... only Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger are ahead of him_
  • Scheffler is now tied with Justin Thomas in terms of overall career victories

We have reached the point where nothing is absurd or shocking or outlandish with Scottie anymore. He can (and almost has) win every single tournament that has ever existed.

What will he do next?
