Highland Park basketball's Mike Williams to step away
TOPEKA (KSNT) - It's hard to engage in the Kansas high school basketball conversation without mentioning Highland Park's Mike Williams.
After a seven-year run as the Runnin' Scots' head coach, Williams confirmed to 27 News his plan to step away from coaching for now. Highland Park fell one possession shy of a state title back in March, losing 58-55 to Wichita's Kapaun Mt. Carmel in overtime of the 5A championship game.
The Scots' 2025 state tournament appearance marked their fourth in a row. Highland Park assembled an 89-9 record over the past four seasons, finishing both the 2023 and 2025 regular season campaigns undefeated.
Williams son, Mikey, was a senior at Highland Park this season. After playing under his father for four years, Mikey is committed to play college basketball at Barton Community College.
