2025 PGA Championship: Phil Mickelson owned his poor Scottie Scheffler take following major win
Phil Mickelson is continuing to own up to his Scottie Scheffler take.
Hot takes often prove to be wrong. That is why they are called hot takes, after all.
You will recall that back in March the great Phil Mickelson unloaded quite the Take. He said that he believed LIV’s Joaquin Niemann was the best golfer in the world. Given that Scottie Scheffler held and still holds that post following his PGA Championship win... that was bold to say the least.
What’s more for Phil is that the take got bolder. He faced criticism for what he said about Scottie and doubled down, more than that really, by suggesting that Scottie may not win an event before the Ryder Cup later this year.
To his credit, Phil owned up to his take when Scottie won the CJ CUP a couple of weeks ago when it was first proven to be wrong. Even more to that point, Phil offered up another kudos to Scottie as he was putting the finishing touches on his claim of the Wanamaker Trophy.
Congrats to Scottie Scheffler on an incredible performance. Clearly #1 in the world.

Phil adding that Scottie is “clearly #1 in the world” is an obvious nod to what he initially set that brought on the firestorm to start with.
Kudos to Phil for waving the white flag and acknowledging he was wrong.
