Brotherhood Playoff Watch: Boston Down 3-1 And Jayson Tatum May Be Seriously Injured

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 12: Jayson Tatum #0 of the Boston Celtics is assisted off court after being injured against the New York Knicks during the fourth quarter in Game Four of the Eastern Conference Second Round NBA Playoffs at Madison Square Garden on May 12, 2025 in New York City.  | Photo by Elsa/Getty Images

Hopefully it’s not was bad as it looks.

Double bad news for Jayson Tatum and Boston as the Celtics lost to New York, 121-113 to go down 3-1.

And worse, Tatum went down with an injury with 2:58 left. It was really a shame because he was having a great game, having scored 42 points and hitting 7-16 on threes and 16-28 overall. He also had eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Once again though, New York came back late to take the game. It’s possible that Boston could have clawed their way back into it, but when Tatum went down, New York was up 113-104 and there was no particular indication that Boston was about to catch fire.

There’s no indication yet of what happened to Tatum, but it was a non-contact injury. He’s scheduled for an MRI and seems unlikely to play in Game 5. Time will tell. He was obviously in severe pain on the floor and was taken off in a wheelchair and was weeping. It was hard to see that.

If Tatum can’t go, leadership will fall to Jaylen Brown and he had this to say after the loss:

“[We have to] get ready for the next one. Get ready to fight, get ready to come out on our home floor and do what we need to do. That’s the goal, still the goal.”

“We got enough in this locker room. I believe in my guys. Tonight, defensively, it was terrible, to be frank. No resistance.”

That won’t cut it anywhere, least of all in Boston. Stay tuned.
