Jon Scheyer Dips Into The Portal For A Big Man
As Ifeanyi Ufochukwu joins the Brotherhood
Here's one we’re betting none of us saw coming: Duke has dipped into the portal for Ifeanyi “Iffy” Ufochukwu. He’s a 6-11 junior at Rice who played just 3.3 mpg, averaging 1.7 points, 0.6 boards and shooting 42.9 percent.
What drew Jon Scheyer’s attention to Ufochukwu? Clearly it wasn’t his offensive production. He may have more of a presence defensively, or perhaps he recruited him as a practice player. Or perhaps like Cameron Sheffield and Kale Catchings, he is bringing him in primarily as a practice player.
Maybe he’s a big guy who is developing late and has some intriguing upside that a lot of people don't’ see.
Or maybe he’s really impressed with his character and sees him as an asset for things beyond just what he does on the court. Duke has a history of finding guys who are incredibly valuable to the team despite minimal oncourt contributions. Look back to Justin Robinson for one example or more recently, Spencer Hubbard.
Whatever it is, he’s a Blue Devil now and we’re happy he’s with us. Welcome to Duke, Iffy!
