LeBron James had jokes about Anthony Davis when asked about Lakers roster
LeBron James had jokes about his good friend Anthony Davis being traded after being asked about the Lakers roster construction following their playoff exit.
The Lakers might not have “Unleashed Joy” like their playoff phrase indicated, but LeBron James was still in good spirits, all things considered, after Wednesday’s final game of the season.
LeBron was asked about the Lakers playing without a center not just for much of the series against the Wolves, but the second half of the season. He, however, did not want to put on his LeGm hat on even for a moment.
Lebron on playing centerless basketball and whether it was tough for him:

This was hilarious work energy from LeBron.
Obviously, this is a reference to Anthony Davis doing an interview with Shams Charania of ESPN where he said the Lakers needed a center, then was traded a week later.
It was like remembering someone at your job getting fired for exactly what a boss is asking you to do, so you refuse to follow the order. Seeing a co-worker abruptly moved only eight days after publicly complaining about something would make any worker raise their eyebrows. Even months later, LeBron remembered and joked he didn’t want to test his luck.
Quite clearly, the Davis trade for Luka Dončić didn’t happen because of anything AD did, but the timing was wild.
Honestly, it’s a funny joke and it was nice to see LeBron in these spirits after the series loss as he’s been in much different moods after previous season-ending defeats.
What’s not a joke is that the Lakers do need a center, which is why the question was even asked.
The Wolves dominated the Lakers on the boards and in the paint and a quality big could’ve made all the difference in this series. The Lakers front office will undoubtedly address that this summer.
Overall, this was just a nice, light-hearted moment brought to you by LeJester.
