Adam Silver contemplates making the All-Star Game international

What could this format mean for next year’s All-Star Weekend?

Though it flew under the radar due to the ongoing NBA playoffs, commissioner Adam Silver recently floated the idea of bringing a more international format to the NBA All Star Game, with players representing their home countries, much like in FIBA or the Olympics.

“Our All-Star Game will return to NBC next season in the middle of their coverage of the Winter Olympics,” Silver told The Athletic this week. “Given the strong interest we’ve seen in international basketball competitions, most recently in last summer’s Olympics in Paris, we’re discussing concepts with the players association that focus on NBA players representing their countries or regions instead of the more traditional formats that we’ve used in the past.”

Currently, the Warriors employ a few legendary American All-Star caliber players like Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler III. Also on the roster are Jonathan Kuminga from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gui Santos from Brazil, and Quinten Post from the Netherlands. We don’t know what format Adam Silver is planning for an updated international All-Star Game, but we hope to see our Warriors repping their countries as well as their team.
