Things may come to a head soon in the battle for Haydon.

April has always started a series of chain reactions in basketball as coaches are fired or take jobs. That was accelerated by the transfer portal recently and now the movement is just about endless.

Take this spring.

When Mike Woodson stepped down at Indiana after the season, the Hoosiers hired Darian DeVries from West Virginia. And when that happened, Mountaineer commit Braydon Hawthorne bailed on West Virginia and became a late prize on the recruiting trail.

Among his pursuers are Kentucky, Virginia Tech, and Duke, as well as Indiana, where DeVries would like to recruit him all over again.

One of the West Virginia coaches was Chester Frazier, who went to Morgantown from Virginia Tech. At Morgantown, he helped recruit Hawthorne and he’s working him again for Mike Young, which may (or may not) give them an edge. Certainly he knows what won the kid over for WVU.

He’s already visited Kentucky and is schedule in at Duke this weekend. Could Jon Scheyer win another battle?

We’ll see soon.
