MESA, AZ — Class of 2026 four-star guard Markus Kerr will visit NC State the weekend of May 2, he told ZAGSBLOG.
Kerr — the 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard from Chambers (NC) — had an impressive weekend at the first Nike EYBL session in Arizona. In three games, Kerr averaged 8.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He was especially effective in Team Thad’s one-point win over Pro Skills, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
“I’m really a three-level scorer,” Kerr said of his game. “I can create for my players. I can create for myself. And I have good energy, play defense.”
Team Thad finished with a 2-1 record in Mesa and started its EYBL season off on the right foot. Kerr said his goals this summer include getting his name out there more nationally and ultimately winning Peach Jam.
Recruitment wise, NC State will be Kerr’s first visit. He doesn’t have any others planned at the moment.
“I’m really excited to meet Will Wade,” Kerr said. “I don’t really know much [about the program], but I know he’s a great coach.”
Kerr said he’s being recruited by several ACC and SEC programs. Specifically, he named Auburn, Kansas, Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State and App State. Here’s his quick breakdown of some of those schools:
Auburn: “I really like Bruce Pearl, the way he coaches. The way he just lets his players hoop. That’s really it.” Assistant coach Ira Bowman mainly in contact.
Kansas: “I really just like how they get it out. They play in transition. They’re tough. They shoot threes. And the coach is a great coach.” Assistant coach Jeremy Case mainly in contact.
Tennessee: “They came to one of our open gyms during high school. They let their guards hoop. They really love defense and they are really about threes and getting shots up.”
LSU: “I really like how they’re just tough. They play tough. They play physical.” Assistant coach Casey Long mainly in contact.
Mississippi State: “I really love the coach Chris [Jans]. Great guy, great individual. They let them play in transition. They just let them hoop.” Assistant coach Patrice Days also in contact.
Kerr’s father, Andre Kerr, played basketball at the college level for Furman. In 1995-96, Andre was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team after posting averages of 12.1 points and 5.6 rebounds.
Kerr is ranked the No. 114 overall player in the 2026 class by 247Sports.
