USC lands Auburn transfer Chad Baker-Mazzara
By ADAM ZAGORIA
Auburn transfer Chad Baker-Mazzara is on the move to USC, he announced.
A 6-foot-7 native of the Dominican Republic who played high school ball at Colonia (NJ), he averaged 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists last year for an Auburn team that won the SEC regular-season title and reached the Final Four.
“Crazy and mine,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said ahead of the Elite Eight on ESPN. “My crazy. No, listen, passion, intensity — he cares so much. He puts a lot of pressure on himself. That’s one of the things that sometimes gets him, where he gets out of sorts a little bit. He wants to win so bad. Again, doesn’t want to disappoint his teammates.
USC will be his fourth school after stops at Duquesne, San Diego State and Auburn.
He joins incoming transfers Ezra Ausar (Utah), Jaden Brownell (Samford), Rodney Rice (Maryland), Jacob Cofie (Virginia), Amarion Dickerson (Robert Morris), Gabe Dynes (Youngstown State) and Keonte Jones (Cal State Northridge).
