Where the B12 Stands With Respect to the 2025 NFL Draft

0 5
The numbers coming out of the NFL draft demonstrate the B12’s relative strength among the P4 conferences. As expected, the cream of the talent is located in the SEC (79 picks) and B1G (71). Those two leagues combined to have nine teams with at least seven picks. Four of them (GA, TX, tO$U, OR) produced at least ten each. Each of those conferences had one school that missed out completely (MS State and Northwestern).

The ACC came away with 42 picks, led by The U with seven. This does not include Notre Dame, who had six. Two ACC members went “draftless” (Duke and Wake Forest).

Bringing up the rear is the B12 with 31 players selected, with no team having more than four (AZ, CO, ISU, OSU). When the Packers selected John Williams late in Round 7, UC avoided joining three B12 teams without a pick (Baylor, BYU, UH). AZ State went to the playoffs. That team generated one selection (Cam Skattebo).

Whereas the SEC and B1G watched 47 of their players go in the top two rounds, the ACC and B12 had 13, combined.

Unlike the other three conferences, the B12 does not have a nationally regarded powerhouse in football (much less multiple powerhouses). There is no collection of talent at the top, as there is no “top”. Aside from the financial disparities, the SEC and B1G also have names that stick out in the minds of college football fans, regardless of their rooting interests. This disparity will increase, if the P2 giants collect the best programs from the ACC.
