Pickleball, refurbished basketball courts coming to Greater Johnstown School District
JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Pickleball is coming to Johnstown High School. The school district announced on Tuesday that work has started on an outdoor instructional area that will include three pickleball courts and two refurbished basketball courts.
Construction will last throughout the summer, according to the school district. It will be ready for the upcoming school year.
This new space is going to serve as an area for physical education classes and other activities for the Warren Street Elementary School and the Johnstown High School. The public will be able to use it when classes are not in session.
The school district also said there will be a formalized bus loop for drop-off and pick-up for elementary students in the parking lot adjacent to the courts. It will be on the Warren Street side and sidewalks leading to the elementary school will be installed.
Improved drainage around the parking areas will also be installed. With this construction there will be times in the summer where parking is directed to other areas of the campus.
Superintendent William Crankshaw said, “We are very excited to begin this work that will provide a safe, valuable, updated resource for our instructional programs and our community. As we continue work through the summer, please be mindful of the posted signs, blocked areas and altered traffic patterns when visiting the school, to ensure that we keep our students, staff and community safe.”
