Could the Warriors be planning to deploy Jonathan Kuminga in Game 2 against the Rockets?

The Golden State Warriors will be looking to take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Houston Rockets when they face off on Wednesday night. Despite a 95-85 Game 1 victory, the Dubs have to be preparing to make adjustments as the Rockets look to even things up. As speculation abounds about different strategic options, Warriors star Draymond Green seemed to hint on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis that Jonathan Kuminga could return to the rotation.

“Both of them young fellas playing well man,” Green said in reference to Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski before transitioning. “And one thing I will say is I think this series is going to turn in Jonathan Kuminga’s favor, and it’s going to be good to see him play well as well. But we need them young guys to play well in this series as well”

“I’d love to see a Jonathan Kuminga sighting,” Davis responded. “Because I have this feeling that he’s ready to breakout and be the difference maker in this series.”

There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of how much to read into Green’s words. In the middle of a playoff series teams have no reason to publicly disclose any tactical plans. Moreover, Green could primarily be focused on trying to keep Kuminga engaged in the event an injury forces him into a role. Then again, that seems like a risky strategy if there is no actual plan to play Kuminga.

Still, this is not the first time Green has discussed Kuminga being an impactful contributor against the Rockets. He made similar comments after the play-in game leading up to Game 1. With Game 2 scheduled for Wednesday evening, we will soon see if head coach Steve Kerr is ready to change the rotation in Kuminga’s favor
