A new era is beginning for one of high school basketball’s most prestigious programs, and it involves bringing back a familiar face to help lead it.
Oak Hill Academy has named NBA legend and Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony as Co-General Manager of Basketball Operations at his alma mater alongside Bay Frazier Jr.
“I’ve had my time on the court, and now it’s about helping put the right people in position to lead and elevate the next generation,” Anthony said in a statement released by Oak Hill. “Bay’s been behind the scenes for a long time making things happen, and Oak Hill is the perfect place for us to do this together. We’re here to make sure these young players have every opportunity to succeed on and off the court.”
Anthony is one of Oak Hill’s most prestigious alumni after leading them to a 32-1 record in the 2001-02 season and finishing his senior year as a top-five player in the country.
Anthony and Fazier Jr. have already completed their first move in the new position, hiring John Zito as the program’s new head coach.
“I’m excited and looking forward to helping Oak Hill Academy regain their national prominence in high school basketball,” Frazier Jr. said.
In the past three seasons, Oak Hill has had a 71-33 record but has yet to make an appearance in the Chipotle Nationals since longtime coach Steve Smith‘s retirement.
