Maryland transfer Rodney Rice commits to USC
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
USC has continued its busy transfer portal season.
Maryland transfer Rodney Rice will play for the Trojans, he announced on his Instagram on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 13.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the Terrapins in his sophomore season. Before playing for Maryland, Rice began his college career at Virginia Tech but only played eight games for the program before moving on.
He will be joining his third program in three seasons and will play under new head coach Eric Musselman. Rice had paid a visit to Villanova, the new home of Rice’s former coach at Maryland, Kevin Willard.
Rice was a priority target for Willard and his staff heading into their first season with the Wildcats but Rice will instead be heading out west as a part of the Big Ten.
This move marks USC’s eighth transfer portal acquisition. Rice joins Robert Morris transfer Amarion Dickerson, Georgetown transfer Drew Fielder, Utah transfer Ezra Ausar, Youngstown State transfer Gabe Dynes, Virginia transfer Jacob Cofie, Samford transfer Jaden Brownell and Cal State transfer Keonte Jones.
