Stanley Borden Enters The Transfer Portal
Best of luck to Big Stan wherever he ends up!
A lot of people won’t see this as much of a loss, but walk-on Stanley Borden has entered the portal.
Borden, a 7-0 senior, rarely played but he was from all accounts a highly useful practice player and helped set and maintain standards. Notably, he and Spencer Hubbard are the last two players from the Mike Krzyzewski era. Hubbard earned a scholarship and became a crowd favorite while Borden only got into five games during his career, but both were crucial in maintaining the standards of the program.
In this they remind us of Justin Robinson, who was in some ways perhaps Duke’s most valuable walk-on ever. He really helped the more prominent players keep their focus and encouraged them behind the scenes. Robinson was just a really valuable guy even though he never played much until the very end of his senior year when, sadly, Covid struck just as he was emerging.
Similarly, most of us will never understand what Borden did behind the scenes, but you know it was a lot.
Wherever he ends up, we hope he has a wonderful year. He’ll always be a member of the Brotherhood.
