LSU lands UNLV transfer guard Dedan Thomas Jr.
By SAM LANCE
One of the best players from the Mountain West, former UNLV guard Dedan Thomas Jr., has committed to LSU, he announced on Instagram.
Thomas — the 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard — averaged 15.6 points, 4.7 assists and 2.0 rebounds for the Rebels in 2024-25. That earned him a spot on the All-Mountain West Third Team. The Las Vegas native has spent the past two seasons at UNLV and has shot 43.2% from the field and 35.8% from deep in his career.
This is a huge get for Matt McMahon and the Tigers. Thomas is ranked the No. 4 overall player in the transfer portal by 247Sports and gives LSU a much-needed lift at the point guard position.
Thomas is the second portal commitment for LSU this cycle, joining former Mississippi State center Michael Nwoko. Those two will be newcomers alongside a solid 2025 recruiting class, which includes guards Jalen Reece and Mazi Mosley along with forward Matthew Gilhool.
LSU is trying to rebound from a season where it finished 14-18 overall and second to last in the SEC. Securing Thomas is a huge step in doing so.
