March Madness: Brits in the 2025 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament

0 9

March Madness is back, and there’s British representation once again in the 2025 Women’s NCAA D1 tournament.

Issy Bunyan – Montana State [13]

Friday, 21st March vs Ohio State [4] – 9:30pm (UK time) – Columbus, Ohio

Bunyan matched a career best for MSU with 15 points in their semi-final victory of the Big Sky Tournament. The Bobcats went on to clinch the Championship with a dramatic win at the buzzer against Montana to clinch their spot at March Madness.

The Welsh forward has seen playing time reduced in her sophomore year, but has started the last four games with important contributions at both ends of the floor. MSU had 30 wins on the season, but face a tough First Round encounter against Ohio State.

Susannah Rafiu – Columbia [11]

Thursday, 20th March vs Washington [11] – 11pm (UK time) – Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Columbia made it in as one of the last four teams, and open up with a First Four encounter against Washington. They won the regular season title for a third straight year, but first outright in school history before falling to Harvard in the Ivy Championship game.

Rafiu makes another March Madness appearance, and had career best averages of 7.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in her junior year. The forward recorded a best of 16 points on three occasions – including in the post-season tournament semi-finals in a double-double effort along with 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Isi Ozzy-Momodu‘s Maryland are the four-seed in the Birmingham Regional 2, while Ines Goryanova‘s Baylor are the four-seed in the Spokane Regional 1. Both players are redshirting this season as they recover from long-term injuries.
