'Running Point' Actor Chet Hanks' Telling Admission About Playing a Basketball Star
While Chet Hanks’ new role as basketball star Travis Bugg on Netflix’s Running Point is one he deemed a near-perfect fit, there was one aspect that didn’t exactly align perfectly.
Hanks, son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, previously told Bustle's Alison Abbey Hudak that the role aligned so well with him, that if he didn't get it he should "just quit" acting.
However, during a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hanks did admit that there was one aspect of the role he was "awful." It was a pretty important piece as well — the 34-year-old described to Fallon just how terrible he is at basketball.
"I'm awful," Hanks admitted. "It's actually like, I'm a pretty athletic guy, but that's the one sport that I've just always — it's honestly pathetic. Like watching me even try to join in and play a pick-up game, it's really sad."
Fallon responded, "So this is real acting right here, I mean, you had to really get into this ... but how did you get past auditions?"
Hanks jokingly responded that he "just lied" to get through auditions for the role.
"Man, yeah, I just lied ... You gotta do what you gotta do," Hanks joked.
Hanks, who's previously appeared in Empire (24 episodes), Shameless (seven episodes) and Your Honor (seven episodes), is now starring alongside Kate Hudson and Brenda Song in his new role. In the show, which released on February 27, a businesswoman (Hudson) is unexpectedly put in charge of her family's pro basketball team.
