NC State Dumps Kevin Keatts; Florida State Set To Hire Loucks
As firing season gets underway
NC State didn't waste any time dealing with Kevin Keatts’ future in Raleigh: they fired him Sunday morning.
Clearly, Keatts can coach - when he has the players. The portal and NIL changed everything though and in the end, he didn’t have the players to compete this year.
Amusingly, in his statement after being fired, Keatts said this: “I am officially entering the portal.”
It would have been perfect if he had added “with that said...” but props to him for having a sense of humor on a tough day.
Now attention turns to his replacement as the coaching carousel heats up. We thought that Florida State would snatch up Samford’s Bucky McMillan, but it doesn’t look like it. State should take a good look at him. He’s got a brilliant offensive system and that would tie State back to its Everett Case roots of exciting basketball.
If they feel like taking a walk on the wild side, they could talk to Will Wade and Chris Beard, but paying Keatts’ buyout may limit their options.
Update - Florida State is set to announce Loucks this afternoon, according to Matt Norlander.
