Hubert Davis signs extension with North Carolina
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
UNC head coach Hubert Davis has agreed to a contract extension with the program. The extension adds two additional years to his current contract, which will run through the 2029-30 season.
The Tar Heels also announced the hiring of Jim Tanner as the team’s general manager, a position becoming increasingly necessary in the NIL era for collegiate athletes.
Davis is expected to earn an annual salary of $3.2 million in the final two seasons of his contract which is around $2 million more than he will be making on his previous deal.
So far Davis’ tenure with the Tar Heels has been a rollercoaster ride of exceeding expectations and historic disappointments. In his first three years, he has led UNC to a national title game and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament but he has also missed the tournament entirely and is currently fighting for a trip to the big dance this season with a 19-11 record.
The Tar Heels late-season stretch will have them facing off against Miami and Virginia Tech, culminating in a rivalry bout against No. 2 Duke on Saturday, March 8th.
