Ryan Richards to enter British team into The Tournament
Ryan Richards has announced he will be entering a ‘Richards Elite’ squad into the $1million cash prize US competition ‘The Tournament‘ this summer.
It is a full circle moment for Richards, who won the tournament in 2016 for a share of $2million, and now will be entering his own team that he says will feature at least two GB internationals in Myles Hesson and Ovie Soko, with the full roster to be confirmed.
“I’m beyond excited to bring this opportunity to the UK,” he told Hoopsfix.
“Winning the TBT in 2016 for $2 million was an incredible experience, and ever since, I’ve wanted to build my own team.”
As part of the roster construction, Richards is offering at least two spots on the team to be selected from open trials – one aged 17-20 and one 21+.
Trials will be taking place from Kent, to London, Nottingham, Worcester, Manchester and Leeds, and cost £75 to enter – find out the full rundown of locations and how to register here.
“Let me be absolutely clear—selection is 100% based on performance, not politics,” Richards said.
“Your CV and past achievements don’t matter. What matters is what you deliver on the day.
“Pay, Play, Perform, and Profit—it’s just that simple.”
The Tournament also known as TBT (for The Basketball Tournament), now in its 12th year, is taking place July 18 – August 3rd in the US, and looking to build on another successful season last summer that saw them set a new single-game attendance record of 13,000 fans. It will be broadcast on FOX Sports and YouTube.
