YouTube Gold: Georgia Tech’s Astonishing Win Over Clemson
It’s still just nuts to think they did this.
There’s no question that the ACC is down. This has been a bad year for much of the conference. Only Duke, Louisville and Clemson have shown a lot of game.
However, the ACC is still the ACC and that means that above all, competitiveness is the biggest factor.
We’ve really seen that from Georgia Tech lately. The Yellow Jackets took out Louisville this past weekend 77-70 and Tuesday night, they took Clemson to triple overtime and won that one, too.
That’s impressive enough, but as we discussed in today’s ACC Roundup, the Yellow Jackets have major injuries and last night, one starter went out early with a head injury. Naithan George had to play 55 minutes and the one adequate bench player, Duncan Powell, pulled 49 minutes.
That’s really staggering. And it’s not like Tech played brilliantly. They made a lot of mistakes, they had 15 turnovers, only shot 25 percent on threes and hit less than 50 percent of their free throws.
However, they showed immense heart and grit. Clemson, on paper, is by far a better team.
But the game is not played on paper and on the court, the Yellow Jackets never gave up, never let up, and despite making some fairly serious mistakes late, they stayed with Clemson. In fact, Clemson played like the more tired team.
It was an amazing performance by Georgia Tech and we can’t say enough about how respect they deserve for pulling this off. Truly an astonishing accomplishment.
