With Luka Dončić joining forces with LeBron James and Austin Reaves, Lakers head coach JJ Redick sees many offensive opportunities.

While Luka Dončić has yet to play an NBA game as a Laker, his era in L.A. has officially begun.

He was introduced as a Laker on Tuesday morning, was present for the team’s road win against the Clippers later that night and was at practice on Wednesday all smiles and hitting half-court shots.

After practice, Lakers head coach JJ Redick discussed how Luka could fit offensively with LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

“Yeah, I think the tactical nature of what we are trying to do and what we’ve been trying to do lately, it goes to a different level as you add Luka,” Redick said via Jovan Buha of The Athletic. And now, having three guys that can really create for themselves and for others, with Luka, LeBron, and AR, I would expect our offense to be able to generate good stuff.”

There is no question that Dončić is an offensive upgrade for the Lakers. He is averaging 28.1 points per game, which would place him as the leading scorer on this team.

Pairing Luka’s offensive aggression with LeBron’s elite finishing at the rim and Reaves’ 18.4 points per game and 37% shooting from 3-point range certainly seems like a recipe for success.

This season, the Lakers' offense has been mediocre. They average 112.4 points per game, which ranks them 17th in the NBA in scoring.

Luka will certainly increase the Lakers' scoring. Also, as a player who averages 7.8 assists per game, he will get better looks for his new teammates.

The next step for Dončić is to make his Laker debut. He is currently rehabbing from a left calf strain he suffered during Dallas’ Christmas Day matchup against Minnesota.

During Luka’s introductory press conference, vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka described him as day-to-day.

Redick also mentioned that he would play either Saturday against the Pacers or on Monday, when they finish their homestand with a game against the Jazz.

ESPN will now air Saturday’s contest in anticipation of Luka’s debut in purple and gold.
