Dick Vitale Set To Return On Saturday

Kentucky fans: why couldn’t he be in Rupp for this?

Well here’s some positive news: after an epic battle with multiple cancers, compounded by an unfortunate fall at home that delayed his return a bit more, Dick Vitale is about to be back on the air again.

Now 85, Vitale has overcome Melanoma, Lymphoma and Dysplasia and either four or five individual tumors.

We tend to make fun of Vitale because, let’s face it, he’s the one human on earth who should be voted Most Likely To Become A Muppet. His voice is iconic and he moves his head a hell of a lot like a Muppet. You know it’s true.

He’s been easy to caricature for years because of his raw, over the top enthusiasm and his absolute passion for basketball.

But underneath the cartoonish exterior lurks the heart of a lion. This man has overcome everything and on Saturday, at the age of 85, he’s going to be back at it when Duke visits Littlejohn. We hope our good friends at Clemson give him the welcome he deserves. Maybe you guys could wheel out the bell and let him ring it publicly. That would be an amazing moment, Tigers, and you’d get massive PR. Do it!
