After being traded to the Mavericks, Anthony Davis shared a thank you message to Lakers fans and the city of Los Angeles on his Instagram.

After becoming a staple of the franchise and Los Angeles over the last half-decade, the abrupt end of Anthony Davis’ time in purple and gold after the Luka Doncic trade with the Mavericks was a hard pill to swallow.

It’s a feeling that will last for some time, but with the NBA moving at a fast pace, it forces everyone to move forward.

Before doing that, though, Anthony Davis took to Instagram on Monday evening and shared a farewell post, thanking the fans and the city of Los Angeles.

For those who can’t see the post, here’s a transcript of his letter:

LA-

6 years ago, I came here with the vision to win a Championship, and I will never forget the moment we did! The business of basketball is a business just like all other businesses… I am grateful to the city where my first ring came from, grew my family and friendships and I will always have a home here. My family and I thank everyone who made this place home and we are still thinking of those that lost their homes in the fires.

To my teammates: our friendships go beyond a locker room and a jersey…

LA will always have a special place in my heart.

Every great story has an exciting next chapter…

Dallas- Here we come!

Fortunately for Lakers fans, AD will return to Crypto.com Arena this season. The Mavericks are set to play the purple and gold in LA on Feb. 25 in a nationally televised game that will offer fans the chance to show their appreciation for what AD did for the franchise.

He should be greeted with raucous applause and, almost assuredly, a tribute video from the franchise as well.

It won’t make everything feel the same as it once did, but it will certainly offer some closure on the situation.
