Prep basketball roundup: Saibel lights up scoreboard as Redwood beats Branson

Maya Saibel dropped in five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead Redwood High past The Branson School, 53-34, in a non-league contest Saturday at College of Marin.

Drew Schultz added 12 points for the Giants, who raced to a 34-17 first-half lead. Redwood (16-8, 7-0 MCAL) can wrap up a perfect run through the league on Thursday against Archie Williams in the regular-season finale.

Kate Spaulding and Paige Macy each scored eight points for the Bulls (12-10, 3-4), while Maya DeSantiago added seven points.

• Carly Amborn poured in 20 points before halftime, then watched from the bench the entire second half as her San Domenico teammates power past Convent, 70-26, on Saturday. Sanne Kostecki scored a career-high 19 points with five 3-pointers, and Tosia Konczak scored 14, despite sitting almost the entire second half as the Panthers rested their stars after getting out to a 50-14 lead in the first half. The Panthers (12-11, 6-2 BCL-West) are scheduled to host Lick-Wilmerding on Tuesday in a battle for second place.
• A depleted Archie Williams squad held tough for a 30-19 road win in Vallejo on Saturday, despite having only seven players dressed. The Peregrine Falcons’ Reese Patton led scorers with 13 points, while Parker Conrad played tough inside for the Falcons (14-8, 3-3 MCAL) on both ends of the court.
• Sean Madsen scored a team-high five points as Novato edged non-league foe Dixon, 18-14, in a low-scoring affair. Savannah Sparks, Neave Lowth and Kira Martinez each scored three points for the Hornets (13-10, 2-4 MCAL), while senior Claire Hannan pulled down eight rebounds.
• Marin Catholic (14-10, 5-1 MCAL) fell to Carondelet, 76-40, in Saturday’s high-profile matchup of non-league rivals.
• Marin Academy beat Urban, 43-37, Saturday in a BCL-West matchup. The Wildcats (13-9, 4-4), who currently sit in fourth place, are scheduled to play University on Tuesday.

Boys basketball

San Domenico held off a hot-shooting Stuart Hall squad, with a second-half run en route to Saturday’s 64-46 victory. Gavin Early finished with 22 points, including 16 in the second half, to power the Panthers (17-6, 5-2 BCL-West). Irakli Jokhadze chipped in 15 points and Omar Williams finished with nine points on three 3-pointers. Currently in second place, the Panthers are set to clash with BCL-West leader Lick Wilmerding (18-4, 6-1) on Tuesday, with a share of the league lead at stake.

• Sophomore Kai Esterkyn came off the bench to lead a balanced attack that saw 13 of 15 Branson players score in Saturday’s 73-36 victory over Novato at College of Marin. Esterkyn was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points. Gabe Halbrecht had 13 points and four rebounds off the bench, while starter NJ Gray had 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals in limited minutes. Heath French added 12 points, five rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists.
• San Marin edged Maria Carrillo, 59-58, Saturday in a prelude to the North Coast Section playoffs. The Mustangs (12-11, 2-4 MCAL) is ranked in the top 10 in NCS Division III, while the Pumas are ranked fifth in NCS D-II.
• Redwood High stomped on the gas pedal early to get a quick lead en route to Friday night’s 62-20 victory over Tam. The Giants received tough defense and balanced scoring, with a team-best 16 points from Brennan Woodley, as well as 11 points from Owen Shawn and eight from Noah Tanaka. Redwood (16-6, 6-1 MCAL) is scheduled to close out the regular season against Archie Williams on Thursday.
• Jack Ellis poured in a team-high 22 points as St. Vincent beat Santa Rosa, 51-42, on Saturday. Teammate Dylan Chelew scored 18 points, while Justin Greco and George Chaput added five points each.
