YouTube Gold: Three Great Moments In The Duke-UNC Rivalry

But if you’re looking for UNC moments, you should probably check elsewhere

Normally we do one video for our daily YouTube Gold feature but with UNC in Cameron on Saturday, we thought, in honor of Fred Lind and his heroics in the triple overtime win in 1969, we’d do a triple feature.

First up: the foundation of what became the greatest rivalry in college sports was laid in 1961 when old friends Art Heyman and Larry Brown sparked the biggest brawl in Cameron history. It took about 10 minutes to get it sorted out and while many things happened, the funniest was that Heyman claimed “I hit Frank McGuire in the nuts!”

Years later, they saw each other and reportedly the former (by then) UNC coach told Heyman “it still hurts, Artie.”

The second one is of course the Austin Rivers moment of immortality as Rivers rocked UNC’s 7-0/250 lb. Tyler Zeller back and forth until he had the edge, then nailed a three as the clock ran out. You may have noticed the other day that former Duke guard, Jaylen Blakes, mentioned this when he hit a jumper in the closing seconds to knock off the Tar Heels in the Dean Dome, 85-84. Duke closed out UNC on a 13-2 run in that one.

Finally, there was the Duhon Dash.

In 2004, Duhon got the ball on the inbounds pass with mere seconds left and drove the length of the court to put in a reverse layup to knock off UNC in Chapel Hill, 83-81.

What will happen this time? We’ll find out soon!
