Dub Hub: Steve Kerr questions Warriors’ roster talent ahead of NBA Trade Deadline
Rounding up all Warriors and NBA related news for Friday, January 31st.
In today’s Dub Hub:
- In an interview with 95.7 The Game, Steve Kerr questions if the Warriors have enough talent to compete ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.
- Steph Curry and Steve Kerr reportedly have concerns about Jimmy Butler’s fit in the Warriors’ locker room, according to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor.
- NBA reveals full rosters for the 2025 All-Star Game.
With the NBA Trade Deadline quickly approaching on February 6th, the Golden State Warriors find themselves at the center of multiple rumors. As their record hovers around .500, head coach Steve Kerr questions whether the current roster has enough talent to compete for a championship, during an interview on 95.7 The Game.

“Well, we know talent wins in this league,” Kerr said. “It doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to win if you have talent, but if you don’t have enough talent, you can’t go anywhere. That’s just the reality. So the question we have to ask ourselves, and Mike and the front office have to ask themselves is, do we have enough talent?
With trade speculation intensifying, the Warriors’ front office continues to evaluate potential moves. Rumored targets include disgruntled Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, as well as the Chicago Bulls duo of Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučević.
Golden State’s recent win over the Oklahoma City Thunder proved they can compete with the NBA’s best on any given night. However, their inconsistency remains a big concern. If the front office determines the current roster lacks the firepower to make a deep playoff run, a significant move ahead of the trade deadline could be on the horizon.

Warriors News:
Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr have concerns about Jimmy Butler joining the Warriors: Sources | Yahoo Sports
I reported on Tuesday morning that the Warriors were back in the mix for Butler now that the Heat have dropped their asking price. Then on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson added intriguing details, noting the Warriors’ initial reluctance due to concerns across every level of the organization about price tag and potential “combustion.”
My league sources confirm these hesitations, revealing Curry himself has reservations about Butler’s fit in the Warriors’ locker room — a sentiment shared by head coach Steve Kerr. Their worries stem from Butler’s tumultuous history with previous teams

The Warriors are still exploring all possibilities to become a better team without necessarily having to trade Wiggins, whom the organization still views as one of the better two-way wings in the league on a reasonable contract. Trading Wiggins could have devastating effects on the Dubs and wind up setting the organization back years if not done correctly.
Nonetheless, talks of LaVine heading to Golden State are very real and gaining momentum.
As things pertain to the Warriors’ second unit, there are still some who don’t necessarily want to see Payton and Looney leave given their value and championship-proven talents. However, the organization does understand that moves need to be made to better their outlook. Whatever happens with Payton and Looney, these are two players that Golden State will have an interest in bringing back in free agency.
Kerr ‘all for’ NBA commissioner’s notion of shortening game length | NBC Sports Bay Area
Silver recently voiced his enthusiasm for instituting 10-minute quarters in NBA games during an interview on the Dan Patrick Show.
Kerr explained why he’s “all for” Silver’s idea during an interview on 95.7’s The Game’s “Willard & Dibs.”
“I think it’s a good idea. I’m not saying for sure it’s the right thing to do, but ... we got to think of everything we can do,” Kerr said. “One thing we know, the league isn’t going to cut games out of the schedule. I wish they would but they’re not going to. I don’t think any of the constituents are going to agree to that just because of the revenue loss. If we’re not going to do that, shortening the games, lengthening the calendar season so the players get more rest, I’m all for that.”

“I have the talent as a top-10 pick, I just feel like I needed to put it all together,” Know says. “Now I look back at it and I appreciate them for letting me do summer league, and letting me do the G League. Not just letting me go find another team. They like me. They see that I can be up top and help the team. Me hearing them say that, it’s like, I know I can do this.

NBA News:
What I’m hearing on De’Aaron Fox as Kings navigate flurry of interest across NBA The Athletic
Per league sources, the Kings continue to navigate a flurry of interest that has come their way as a result of the revelation. One league source indicated that more than half the teams in the NBA have inquired. The prospect of Fox being moved, and his eight-year tenure with the Kings coming to an end, has never been more real.
As expected, league sources say those trade talks include the team that is known to be Fox’s preferred destination: the San Antonio Spurs.
Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart suspended 1 game without pay by NBA | NBA
Stewart, who entered Wednesday’s game with four Flagrant Foul points, received a Flagrant Foul 2 and was ejected with 8:45 remaining in the second quarter of the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Jan. 29. Stewart will serve his suspension tonight when the Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks at Little Caesars Arena.

NBA trade deadline: 5 potential deals between the Warriors and Bulls
2. Just Nikola Vučević
Warriors get: Nikola Vučević, 2025 SAC 2nd, 2028 CHI 2nd
Bulls get: Gary Payton II, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III, 2025 GS 1st (Top-5 protected)
The emergence of Quinten Post may make adding a stretch big with defensive weaknesses like Vučević less appealing, which is probably why the Warriors have reportedly shifted their focus to LaVine, however, there has been enough smoke here to justify playing around with potential fits.
A tweet to end the week:
After his poster dunk last night, Gary Payton II couldn't help but think of his good ol' South Bay/RGV Viper days in the G League — where he would throw down vicious dunks night after night.
