Duke Crushes SMU In Cameron, 81-46.
Featuring a star turn from Toby Fournier
Duke toyed with SMU in Cameron Thursday night, winning 81-46.
The Mustangs hung around in the first quarter, ending it down just 24-21.
Things changed in the second quarter as Duke’s defense kicked in. SMU didn’t score for the first five minutes and Duke started to run away, taking a 46-25 lead at halftime.
For those who, like us, are math challenged, that means Duke outscored SMU 22-4 in the quarter. That’s just dominance.
It was slightly better in the third, where Duke kept pouring it on 24-9, but eased off in the fourth, which SMU won 12-11.
Too little too late.
Freshman Toby Fournier had a breakout game with 24 points and seven rebounds. Ashlon Jackson had 17 points and five boards. Jadyn Donovan had 10 rebounds, including six offensive.
Duke shot 30-66 overall for 45 percent and 10-21 on threes for 47.6 percent.
SMU was held to 31.4 percent overall and 23.5 percent from behind the line.
The Blue Devils also forced 17 turnovers, which is good but far off the recent 29+ turnover games we’ve seen lately.
With the win, Duke moves to 16-4 and 7-1 in the ACC. Next up is #18 Georgia Tech on the road on Sunday.
