Duke Rips #18 Cal, 72-38.
And the Blue Devils, again, did something pretty incredible. Again.
Duke probably expected to get a game out of #18 Cal but that didn't happen as the Blue Devils ran away, winning 72-38.
Duke is doing something highly unusual that appears to be somewhat under the radar: this team is forcing more turnovers lately than any team we’ve ever heard of.
Forcing more than 25 turnovers is pretty rare. Duke forced 29 against Boston College, 26 against Carolina and a stunning 31 against Cal- a Top 25 team, mind you.
That’s absolutely mind-boggling. We’ve seen some great defensive performances from different teams over the years, but we’ve never seen one put together several games with that many turnovers before. It’s truly remarkable.
Duke also limited the Bears to 16-45 overall (35.6 percent) and 2-12 (16.7 percent) from three point range.
Freshman Toby Fournier had a double-double with 23 points (7-10/0-1) and 11 rebounds. Ashlon Jackson had 16 poiints and Reigan Richardson had 14.
The Blue Devils shot 27-62 (43.5 percent) overall and 6-21 (28.6 percent) from deep.
Next up is Stanford on Sunday and while Stanford is a blue blood on the women’s side, Tara Van Der Veer retired after last season and this is a transitional season. Kate Payne is just 10-7 so far, so we’ll see what her team brings.
