No one has ever had a freshman season like Walker had

By any reasonable standard, Herschel Walker’s freshman year at Georgia was incredible. He showed up in Athens as a physical prodigy, a veritable Adonis.

What people didn't realize was that Walker grew up with very few privileges. He had no access to a gym and no weight room. He did, however, have a floor and a hill.

On the floor, Walker did hundreds of pushups and sit ups every day. And on the hill, he ran countless sprints - uphill, of course.

By the time he graduated from high school, he was a known commodity as a running back but no one imagined the sort of impact he would have at Georgia, where he set the NCAA record for most yards by a freshman. He also finished third in the Heisman voting and led his team to the national championship.

He was just a sensational athletic talent. Later he also competed in MMA and even competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics in the two-man bobsled (his team finished seventh).
