Basketball star’s contract terminated by Scottish club as it’s revealed he’s a named suspect in US gun murder case
SHOCK gun murder links have emerged over a Scottish-based basketball player.
But they only surfaced AFTER Caledonia Gladiators terminated his contract over a separate ‘serious breach of club discipline’.
Malik Dunbar only joined Caledonia Gladiators in December[/caption] The 6’6″ star left the club over a ‘serious breach of club discipline’[/caption] The club’s website no longer shows the announcement marking Dunbar’s arrival[/caption]The club, now based in East Kilbride after leaving the Emirates Arena in 2023, terminated the deals of both Malik Dunbar and Jared Wilson-Frame yesterday (Tuesday).
A statement confirmed their exits but also revealed officials have now learned of ‘serious allegations’ linked to Dunbar which have emerged since his release.
The Daily Record reports the 28-year-old is named as a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man outside a Mexican restaurant in Georgia in October.
Dad of four Arthur Braxton, from South Carolina, was gunned down in a car park in Augusta – and US officials include the ex-Gladiators star as a suspect.
The Richmond County Sheriff office has since confirmed to the Scottish Sun that they have a suspect in the case going by the same name.
He was previously on the roster for Golden State Warriors’ Summer League team and pitched up in Scotland at the start of December having spent last season in Colombia and Mexico.
But Gladiators say they released him – and former Maine Celtics guard Wilson-Frame – before the allegations came to light.
They’re now assessing how their recruitment was carried out and have DELETED the web-page announcing his arrival on December 5.
The club said: “As of 14 January 2025, Caledonia Gladiators can confirm that the club has terminated the contracts of both Malik Dunbar and Jared Wilson-Frame, who joined the club last month, with immediate effect based on a serious breach of club discipline
“Following this breach, we have since been made aware of serious allegations circulating on a separate matter in relation to Malik Dunbar in the US and prior to his arrival with the club but we cannot comment on any potential police investigation.
“We work with reputable sports agencies who supply players to clubs across the world and no allegations were disclosed as part of our due diligence process.
“As such, an internal review has now been launched with the relevant stakeholders.”
Dunbar was born in North Augusta city in South Carolina and enjoyed a college basketball career in the NCAA with prominent college Auburn.
Despite his spell with the Golden State Warriors he went undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft and has also played in Germany and South America before his brief stay Scotland where he played seven times – but helped his side win just once in that run.
