YouTube Gold: Comeback Of The Year?
It’ll be hard to top this one
Well you won’t see this very often: Pitt’s women’s basketball got down by 32 to SMU in the first half and came back and won.
How amazing was it? Try this: the Panthers outscored SMU 28-0 in the third quarter.
Pitt was down 49-18 at the half.
Obviously the first thing you notice is the defense: nobody rips off a 28-0 run without playing phenomenal defense.
Typically though the energy required to pull of a comeback that big means there’s a pretty good chance you run out of gas before you can close the deal and that nearly happened here too as SMU retook the lead.
Coach Tony Verdi said this about the instantly legendary accomplishment: “I came in at halftime and said, ‘I don’t have any magic words and I don’t have any magic plays. We were just getting outworked, we were getting outplayed. It was a positive, spirited conversation. I challenged them. We talked about pride, having a sense of pride. And then essentially I gave them a roadmap to get us back into the game.”
Did they ever.
