Not as good a day for Wake Forest however

In Saturday’s ACC Action, Wake Forest fell to Xavier 75-60, Notre Dame handled Georgetown 84-63 and Syracuse had an unexpected thriller with Youngstown State, winning 104-95.

JJ Starling had a monstrous game, hitting or 38 including 21 in the first half. Eddie Lampkin and freshman Donnie Freeman had double-doubles. Lampkin had 20 points and 13 boards; Freeman finished with 19 points and 12 boards.

Starling played 49 minutes, by the way.

Georgetown started off well early but missed 13 straight shots as Notre Dame built a 19-7 lead and never looked back. By the half, the Irish were up 44-29 and were shooting 65 percent from the floor.

Georgetown basically didn’t compete. The Hoyas finished 8-32 from behind the line and 22-70 overall.

Princeton transfer Matt Allocco led the way with 17 points and seven assists. Markus Burton added 16 while Tae Davis kicked in 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Xavier took the lead early and never let it go. It’s a solid program but it’s not a great sign for the Demon Deacons.

There are a few stats that tell the story: Xavier won the three point battle, 30-15. The Musketeers outscored Wake from the line 19-11. And Wake forest had 18 turnovers, which must have driven Steve Forbes crazy.

It was just too much to overcome.

Hunter Sallis finished with 16 points though he didn’t shoot well and had four turnovers.

Davin Cosby was the only other Demon Deacon to reach double figures with 13.

On Sunday, we’ll see Clemson at the next ACC expansion target Boise State (kidding, calm down), Coppin State at Miami, UC Davis busing over to Stanford and Cal at USC in a sad echo of the Conference of Champions.
