The Nike NBA City Edition uniforms, an ice blue colorway with matching shorts, feature “The Land” on the front in the same design as the west wing of the Cleveland Museum of Art. The back of the jersey, separated down the sides by a coloring book pattern of Cleveland symbols, is a darker blue reminiscent of the powder blue color that debuted in 1994.

Nice City Edition uniforms and color schemes have been around for several years, with mixed results from fans and national media. The defending world champion Boston Celtics, for example, have some of the worst. The Cavs have not been immune to this either, with the inaugural gray City Edition jerseys looking bland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ones with the ransom note-esque lettering.
But these new uniforms? They are excellent.
The Cavs and Nike have used places around Cleveland as inspiration for the uniforms and court designs, much like last year with Playhouse Square. The Cleveland Museum of Art is a great choice, and quietly one of the most respected institutions in the country. The “LAND” logo on the front is reminiscent of the art museum’s own symbol, the color scheme is fitting given its place in Cavs history, and the side panels resembling a coloring book is a fun touch also seen on the re-designed court. When compared against some of the other City Edition choices across the league, the Cavs rank as one of the better ones.
The Cavs will wear their City Edition jerseys on Nov. 17 against Charlotte, Dec. 5 against Denver, Dec. 23 against Utah, Jan. 12 against Indiana, March 5 against Miami, and March 27 against San Antonio.
