Aston Martin F1 makes more changes to technical team
Dan Fallows will leave his role as Technical Director ahead of Adrian Newey’s arrival
More changes are coming to the technical team at Aston Martin.
The Formula 1 team announced on Tuesday that Dan Fallows would be stepping down from his role as Technical Director. Fallows will remain with Aston Martin, and be moved into a different role.
“I would like to thank Dan for his contribution to Aston Martin Aramco in the last two years. Dan led the team to the success of the AMR23 which secured eight podiums last season,” said Aston Martin CEO Andy Martin in a brief statement.
Aston Martin’s AMR23 was the surprise package at the start of the 2023 F1 campaign, as they began the year in incredible form. They began the year with a double-points result at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, and Fernando Alonso opened his 2023 F1 campaign with three straight podium finishes.
However, their mid-season development of the AMR23 failed to keep pace with the rest of the grid, and after starting the year up near the top of the Constructors’ Championship standings, they faded to fifth by season’s end.
This year, Aston Martin has languished in the middle of the pack. As the final three races of the F1 season loom, they sit fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, 37 points clear of sixth-place Alpine. While they might be out of striking range from the teams behind them, they languish 296 points behind fourth-place Mercedes.
Fallows says now is the time to “pass the baton” at Aston Martin.
“In my time at Aston Martin, it has been a joy and a privilege to guide the technical team on their journey towards being race and championship winners,” said Fallows. “It is time for me to pass on the baton, but I look forward to watching the team’s future success, which I am sure will come soon.”
Fallows will be passing the baton to one of the sport’s living legends. Earlies this fall Aston Martin announced that Adrian Newey, one of the most successful engineers in F1’s history, will join the team next year as both shareholder and the team’s Managing Technical Partner. Newey will join in March, giving him the chance to help with the mid-season development of next year’s AMR25, as well as their development of the AMR26, which will be the team’s first challenger under the new set of F1 regulations. Those go into effect for the 2026 season.
