The Cavs players led Progress Field in a “Let’s Go Guards” chant before Game 5 against the Tigers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have kept a close eye on the MLB Playoffs throughout training camp and the preseason. Life-long New York Mets fan Donovan Mitchell has been living and dying with every Mets game. But he and his teammates have also been locked in on what the Cleveland Guardians have been doing.

Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, and Tristan Thompson were on the field before Game 5 against the Detroit Tigers. They led the stadium in a “Let’s go Guards” chant to pump up the crowd before Saturday’s elimination game.

Mitchell has done a lot to embrace the city since coming to Cleveland. He seems to have taken that up a notch since signing an extension to stay with the Cavs earlier this summer. Supporting the Guardians is nothing new for Garland and Thompson.

Garland has thrown out the first pitch at Guardians games numerous times since being in Cleveland. Thompson was one of the many Cavaliers who supported the Guardians during their playoff runs in 2016 and ‘17 along with the rest of the championship Cavs teams.

Another member of that championship team, who’s now with the Los Angeles Lakers, wished his hometown baseball team luck last night as well.

The Cavs have a slight break in their preseason schedule. They don’t play again until Wednesday and Friday of next week before starting their season against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, October 23.

The winner of Game 5 between the Guardians and Tigers will take on the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
