Danny Green, a member of the 2020 Lakers that won the NBA title, officially called it a career after 15 years on Thursday.

Danny Green called it a career on Thursday, officially retiring from the NBA. Shams Charania of ESPN announced the retirement on “First Take” with Green following that with a post on Twitter/X.

The former Laker played in the NBA for 15 seasons and won three titles, including one for the Lakers in 2020.

According to Charania, he will now take time to continue working in media and pursue other business ventures.

Green only spent one year with the Lakers, but it was a special one. He was part of the 2019-20 title team and was the designated shooter on the roster. Green took the second shot 36% from deep that season and his defensive ability on the perimeter allowed the team to be one of the best defenses in the NBA.

He had plenty of memorable moments donning the purple and gold jersey, even if for just one season. In his first game as a Laker, he did all he could to help the team win on Opening Night against the Clippers, scoring 28 points to set the franchise record for most points in a debut.

Most fans, though, will remember his incredible putback dunk against the Hawks during the regular season, one of the highlights of the year for so many reasons.

After winning the title with the Lakers, Green bounced around the NBA, playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Green first made a name for himself in the NBA as a lethal shooter for the San Antonio Spurs. He helped them win a title back in 2014, defeating the Miami Heat in five games. He then went on to help the Kawhi Leonard-led Raptors win their first-ever NBA title in 2019.

Having won three titles for three different franchises, Green is only one of four players to do so, joining LeBron, John Salley and Robert Horry.

Green was a key part of a Lakers championship and for that alone, he should be treated with the same kind of love other role players like Sasha Vujačić receive whenever they are in town or at a Lakers home game.

Happy retirement, Danny!
