Austin Reaves out vs. Bucks with ankle soreness, LeBron James and Anthony Davis to play

The Lakers will be without Austin Reaves for Thursday’s preseason game in Milwaukee as he will sit with ankle soreness.

It was a mixture of good and bad news for the Lakers ahead of Thursday’s preseason game against the Bucks. While LeBron James and Anthony Davis will play in Milwaukee, Austin Reaves will not.

Prior to the game, JJ Redick revealed that Reaves, who played all 83 regular season games including the In-Season Tournament final last season, would sit out with ankle soreness.

To say the least, preseason injury “reports” should be taken with mountains of salt. Reaves played in the team’s first two preseason games and looked fine and there was no noticeable injury suffered in either of them. For now, there isn’t much to worry about.

Redick did not announce a starter pregame, but it would presumably be Max Christie, who started in place of LeBron in the team’s first preseason game. Christie, as noted in the tweet, is on a minutes restriction as well, though.

Perhaps that flight from Milwaukee was really treacherous.

This would also open up minutes for the likes of Dalton Knecht and Jalen Hood-Schifino to play in the regular rotation, potentially. Neither have seen extended minutes alongside LeBron and Anthony Davis this preseason.

Cam Reddish saw his first preseason action of any kind on Sunday, though it was a brief cameo. Jordan Goodwin, meanwhile, was out from the start of practice with an injury as well.

The Lakers have plenty of time out between Thursday and their next game on Tuesday before finishing with three games in four nights (okay, but why are the Lakers doing this to themselves with this preseason schedule).
