As the Blue Devils fall to 5-1

Duke is undefeated no more after a tough trip to Atlanta to face up to the Georgia Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech scored on the first drive of the play and got a field goal in the second quarter to go up 10-0.

Duke got a touchdown on a 20 yard pass from Maalik Murphy to Eli Pancol with :23 left in the first half.

Duke took the lead with 2:53 left in the third quarter to go up 14-10 but the Yellow Jackets owned the fourth. Haynes King had two touchdown strikes, with the first a short pass to Jamal Haynes and the second another short pass, this time to Eric Singleton.

Duke has taken a lot of pride in being a fourth-quarter team this year but it didn’t work that way Saturday night. Here’s what coach Manny Diaz had to say after the loss:

We’ve always felt confident about the way we play in the fourth quarter and today, our guys didn’t have it. I don’t fault our effort. Our want to, our desire. We gave everything. This is six of six games in a row. We had a lot of guys not 100% playing today and what they had, they gave. Really proud of some of the non-starters who came in and gave us valuable minutes today. Really thought they played their tails off as well. It’s a bye week coming at a good time for us. We’ll need it to regroup, rest, get our bodies back and most importantly, get our minds back for the second half of the season.”

Going 5-0 was wonderful but an undefeated season was never going to happen. Let’s see what happens now and how this team responds to a loss.
