Duke Falls Behind UConn But Dog Huskies In A Late Rally To Win 26-21
Far from a perfect game, but Duke is now 3-0
Duke started out great against UConn Saturday night, roaring out to a 17-0 lead. It seemed as if things were going to go as predicted. The Huskies scored a touchdown before halftime to cut the lead to 10 though, and then tacked on two more TDs, including an interception for a 64 yard ramble to take the lead 21-17.
Duke responded with a Todd Pelino field goal to cut the lead back to one and then the defense and Maalik Moore got to work.
The defense came through with a deep interception by safety Terry Moore and then Moore hit Que’Sean Brown for a 20 yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, but Duke was back up 26-20.
The defense kept UConn away from the red zone and Chris Freeman missed a field goal that might have cut the lead to three.
On the final drive, Murphy did a great job of managing the clock and when he took a knee with 0:11 left on the clock, there was nothing UConn could do.
It wasn’t a perfect game - Duke honestly hasn’t played a great game so far - but the Blue Devils are 3-0 and some schools, like maybe 0-3 Florida State, would love to be imperfect and 3-0.
Clearly there’s work to do, but Manny Diaz’s team is winning and having fun. Next up is a trip to Middle Tennessee State and a chance to move to 4-0 on the young season.
